It is very important for dogs to be absolutely obedient to the owner’s orders.

Dogs obedience training starts on key issues such as sitting, standing, walking, paying attention to your commands & obbeying them, sitting in the car, etc.

You cannotexpect your dog to be obedient by birth or nature. It takes a great deal of effort to make it understand that your commands must be obeyed.

Training a dog to be obedient can be imparted in different ways – two of the most popular methods are the typical carrot and stick methods.

The first method depends heavily on the stick or punishment approach.

The second method deals with a reward system for the dog.

Leash and collar method of dogs obedience training have been around for a long time now. Though it might be though of as primitive, it is still very popular.

The premises of this training method are based on the following: the leash will be the mode of communication with the dog.

The dog must understand the commands, and if not obeyed to, the leash should be put to action. But using the leash alone will not suffice -  the dog must be made aware of what kind of behaviour will be expected of him/her . If it persists in having bad behaviour, the dog can be reprimanded with the leash.

Opposed to this, the reward system doesn’t rely on punishing the dog. It is based on a psychological approach to dealing with dog training. The dog is encouraged to behave in such a way as to be able to obtain a reward. Its negative behaviour is neglected in the form of psychological treatment. The trainer or owner walks away from the dog as soon as it shows unexpected behaviour.A dog is an intelligent animal that will be able to understand the difference between good and bad behaviour.

Whatever technique is used for Dogs obedience training, it is a key factor to know that the training must be consistent. Dogs get easily confused when double standards are employed. If you expect your dog never to jump on the bed, do not ever let or invite him/her on your bed. Ensure it never reaches your bed.

Dogs obedience training can be easily imparted if you are willing to do it yourself. Alternatively, you can get  your dog enrolled in some obedience training courses or delegate it to a dog instructor. Before deciding to make use of outside help assess techniques, equipment, infraestructure and experience .

Remember the ideal situation would be that in which you yourself become your dog’s instructor. Your dog will enjoy it.
